We’re so excited to announce the winners of our Family Day giveaway!
We asked you, the members of our community, to nominate people that you know deserved hearing care, but for some reason couldn’t acquire it at the time. Whether it was due to financial constraints, insurance conflicts, or simply being too busy with helping others, we were looking for outstanding individuals who needed help but wouldn’t ask for it themselves.
Winners of our Family Day giveaway will receive a complimentary hearing assessment and hearing aids of their choice to help them get back to hearing the life they love most. We had so many incredible nominations for each location, it was tough to pick just a few!
The winners are…
For Our Kitchener Frederick Location, Shirley Engel Wins!
Irene Brenner nominated Shirley, who is a loving mother and grandmother. While she’s worn hearing aids for close to a decade, her devices at the time of her nomination were dated, and she decided they couldn’t be fixed, and her fixed income wouldn’t be able to cover new devices.
Shirley has endured a lot in her life; despite losing her husband and her middle son in recent years, she continues to paint, sew, cook and bake, as well as meeting with her friends each week for coffee and good gossip!
Irene’s nomination was so kind and told us all we needed to know and more to decide Shirley is the perfect candidate to win.
Gertrud Frim Wins for Kitchener Greenbrook!
Peter Post nominated Gertrud to win the giveaway, and his nomination spoke of her frustrations with not hearing well. Gertrud hasn’t been able to hear well for a long time, especially since she couldn’t afford new hearing aids due to her current living situation.
At 87 years old, Gertrud was feeling left out of conversations she couldn’t understand, accusing her loved ones of whispering behind her back.
Hearing loss is isolating and frustrating; Peter knew that she needed help to get back to the things she likes doing, like playing cards with her friends and chatting with her loved ones.
Guelph’s Winner Is Kyle Shingler!
Leslie’s nomination for our winner Kyle was short and sweet, but told us all we needed to know for why he was deserving of hearing care.
As a father with two young children, Kyle was missing a lot of conversations around him and didn’t hear well when people spoke to him. He’s had hearing challenges for several years, Leslie told us, but with the gift of hearing, she thought he could turn his life around for the better.
The Winner for Our New Hamburg Location is Stanley Desjardine!
As an active member of the community, Stan was the man that Alyssa thought of first to win the Family Day giveaway.
Stan volunteers at the New Hamburg Thrift Centre, and contributes greatly to his loved ones and the people around him. Alyssa knew that a hearing test and aids would only increase his capabilities to help the community he loves most.
Gloria Fidler Wins in Our Simcoe Location!
Gloria’s son Michael nominated his mother for the Family Day giveaway; she was tested for hearing loss challenges in our Simcoe branch, but due to financial constraints, couldn’t afford hearing aids of her own.
As a loving mother and grandmother to her three sons and four granddaughters, Michael saw how his mom was turning the TV volume up and asking everyone to repeat themselves and knew that she needed hearing aids to hear her beloved family.
Waterloo’s Winner is Meagan Sudicky!
Meagan was nominated by her father Edward, and her story was incredibly touching. Meagan was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma in her late teens, which was removed and followed by radiation treatments that unfortunately caused hearing loss in her right ear, as well as tinnitus.
Meagan and her husband are touring figure skating coaches that coach the skaters in Disney on Ice and Holiday on Ice shows internationally; due to her jet-setting lifestyle, her insurance could not cover professional quality hearing aids.
Meagan’s father’s nomination showed us how much he cares for his daughter and her hearing, and we knew she would be a great pick for our winner.
