Why Protecting Your Hearing Keeps You Close to Loved Ones: Velma’s Story

Why Protecting Your Hearing Keeps You Close to Loved Ones: Velma’s Story

Velma, who is nearly 90, has built a life rich with family and memories. “I have 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren who are so important in my life. Being able to hear them means so much,” she tells us fondly.

Her story reminds us that hearing is about so much more than just sound; it’s about staying connected to the people and moments that matter most.

As we move through life our ability to hear often changes, but you always deserve to keep hearing the voices that fill your world with meaning. Velma’s journey shows how protecting your hearing can help you remain present, engaged, and deeply connected, no matter your age.

When Hearing Changes Happen Gradually

For Velma, the signs of hearing loss appeared long before she sought out treatment. “It’s been almost 30 years since I began to notice I was having difficulty hearing,” she shares.

Like Velma and many others, you might not notice hearing changes right away. Hearing loss often develops slowly, and it’s easy to adapt without realizing how much you’re missing.

Signs of hearing loss could include frequently asking people to repeat themselves or turning up the volume on the television. Often, the first sounds to fade are the high-frequency ones, like children’s voices, laughter, and the crisp clarity of speech.

These subtle changes can quietly chip away at your ability to fully participate in conversations and family gatherings. But you don’t have to accept missing out. Recognizing these changes is the first step toward staying connected.

Choosing the Right Place Makes All the Difference

When Velma decided to seek help, she started with a hearing test at an independent centre and took her time to find the right place for her hearing aids. After all, you want to make sure you’re making the best choice for your health, something Velma knew would change how she connects with her family.

On her first visit to Arnold Hearing Centres, Velma and her family almost left because the technician was busy. But what happened next made all the difference. “A lady quickly came out to talk to us. Her caring attitude stood out and confirmed my decision,” Velma recalls.

With us, you benefit from a team that sees you as a person, not just an appointment. When you walk through our doors, you can rest assured that your concerns will be heard, even when things are busy.

A caring, flexible response isn’t just a nice touch; it’s the foundation of a partnership that supports you for years to come. In Velma’s case, it was part of how she knew that she’d made the right choice.

Hearing Well to Stay Sharp and Connected

For Velma, hearing well is about more than just catching every word. “I know that being able to hear makes such a difference in my relationships and my ability to think clearly,” she says.

Velma noticed a difference immediately, getting to once more enjoy conversations with her dozens of grandkids and great-grandkids. With such a huge family, it’s crucial to stay connected with each member!

You might notice that when you hear better, you feel more confident joining conversations, more independent in daily life, and more engaged with the world around you.

Staying connected to family and friends keeps your mind active and your spirits high. Research shows that hearing well supports mental sharpness and emotional well-being, especially as we age.

You deserve to enjoy every moment with strong, healthy hearing!

Long-Term Care That Grows With You

Velma’s journey with Arnold Hearing Centres has spanned nearly three decades. Over the years, she’s experienced multiple generations of hearing aid technology and the ongoing support of a team that truly cares.

“[The team] worked patiently with me to get the right fit, even when I became discouraged, and this helpful attitude has continued through each new set of aids over 27 years,” Velma shares.

When you partner with Arnold Hearing Centres, you can rest assured that your hearing care won’t end after your first fitting. Regular cleaning and checkups keep your hearing aids working at their best.

“I am so grateful for the cleaning and checking they do every three months to keep my aids working well,” Velma enthuses.

When you choose a clinic that’s committed to your long-term well-being, you benefit from support that adapts as your needs change. Whether you’re adjusting to new technology or facing challenges with your existing devices, you’ll have a partner by your side every step of the way.

A Fuller Life Starts With Looking After Your Hearing
